Artist statement
The first canvas in a four-part suite painted during the closing weeks of the Hours of Static reunion tour. The linen was pulled from a touring case and never primed — the surface keeps the salt, ash, and pen ink of a season on the road.
The crimson, the artist has said, came from "a single bad night in Marfa." The painting carries the weight of that night without naming it.
